Sunnahs When Entering a House

1. When returning home, upon entering, first greet those in the home with Salaam. Thereafter recite this Dua:
(Abu Dawood)
Trans: O Allah, I ask of you a good entering and a noble leaving. With the name of Allah have we entered and with the name of Allah do we leave and upon Allah have we placed our trust.

2. Anas Radiyallahu Anhu narrates Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam said to me: Sonny! When you enter your home, offer Salaam to your family. It will be a blessing for you and the inmates of your home. (Tirmidhi)

3. Abdullah ibne-Bishr Radiyallahu Anhu narrates: I heard Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam saying: Do not stand in front of the doors of houses, but stand on either side of the door to seek permission. If you are permitted, enter into the house, otherwise return. (Tabarani, Majma-uz-Zawaid)

4. Abu Hurairah Radiyallahu Anhu narrates that Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam said: When one’s sight goes inside the house, then seeking permission is meaningless. (Abu Dawud)

5. Ata ibne-Yasar Rahimahullah narrates that a man asked Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam : O Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam ! Should I seek permission to enter where my mother lives? He replied: Yes. This man said: Even if I live in the same house with her? Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam said: Seek her permission. The man said: I serve her (so I have to go frequently). Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam said: Seek her permission; would you like to see her naked? The man said: No. Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam said: Well, then seek her permission. (Muatta Imam Malik)

6. Huzail Rahimahullah narrates that Sa’d Radiyallahu Anhu came to the house of Nabi Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam, paused and stood in front of the door to seek permission for going in. Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi wa Sallam said: Stand this side or that side (lest you gaze fall inside the house). For verily permission is sought, so that you may not look inside. (Abu Dawud)
